What Are the Causes of Endometriosis?
The exact cause of endometriosis is unclear. Most expert physicians agree that there are a number of factors that ultimately lead to the development of endometriosis. If birth control pills or progesterone pills become ineffective, the physician would discuss and offer stronger medications such as Lupron or Orilissa. These medications are designed to create a state of menopause or estrogen deprivation in the body. Since estrogen is the main “fuel” for endometriosis, estrogen depletion would suppress the activity of endometriosis and put the disease in remission. Unfortunately, some patients cannot tolerate the side effects of estrogen depletion such as mood changes, insomnia, and joint ache to name a few. On the other hand, some patients do very well on Lupron and Orilissa and experience significant improvement of their pelvic pain.
